Calculated from AD 622, the year in which the prophet Muhammad went from Mecca to Medina. AH = Anno Hegirae. The years are purely lunar, and consist of 12 months with alternately 29 or 30 days depending on the sighting of the new moon. A lunar year has, on average, 355 days. This is 10 days less than the solar year. Hence an Islamic year is moved ahead 10 days each year in solar calendar year.((
Introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 to replace the Julian calendar. The solar year of the Gregorian calendar consists of 365 days (365.2422 days), except in a leap year, which has 366 days and occurs every fourth, even-numbered year. Centenary years are leap years only if they are evenly divisible by 400.(((
Calculated from AD 78, the beginning of the Saka era (SE), used alongside Gregorian dates in Government of India publications since March 22, 1957.
To find Hijri calendar
year (AH):
Gregorian year + (Gregorian year - 622) / 32 - 622
To find Gregorian
calendar year (AD):
Hijri year - (3 * Hijri year) / 100 + 622

When the Muazzins of Indonesia are calling out Fajar Azaan, the African Muazzins are calling the Isha Azaan. If we were to ponder over this phenomenon thoughtfully, we would conclude the amazing fact that there is not even a single moment when hundreds of thousands of Muazzins around the world are not reciting the Azaan on the surface of this earth. Even as you read this material right now, you can be sure there are atleast thousands of people who are hearing and reciting the Azaan. |
